5th July 2010

Congratualtions to all those who finished the Welsh 3 Peaks and raised over £5,000 for Marie Curie!!  Particular mentions go to Phil and Elen for courage in the face of extreme vertigo and to Ade for his high altitude glamour modelling!

13th June 2010

Well done to Karen on completing the Ross Triathlon, which included a 750m open water swim after only 4 hours sleep and a transatlantic flight home!!

10th May 2010

A good weekend for fitness in general as a brave group finished the Welsh 3000's.  Taking in 14 peaks in Snowdonia over 3000 feet, at a distance of 26 miles AND all non-stop, this challenge has earned the right to be described as 'a bit lary'.  Starting at 6.15am on Saturday the challenge was completed at 5.05am on Sunday morning.  There were some very sore legs on the way home!  Well done to all who took part, photos to follow soon...

Also, in other fitness news, Jan Coles completed the Cirencester triathlon and managed to get personal best timings in the swim, bike and run sections!  So well done to her too!

15th March 2010

Officially started today the aspire triathlon facebook page, so keep in touch with the various goings on on-line.  We will post details of all forthcoming events and training rides, swims and runs etc. on there so become our friend and we will update you.

8th March 2010

aspire fitness triathlon club is officially go!  We are aiming to encourage those who have wanted to try a triathlon to take the plunge and do it!!  First up for those who are interested is to assess how good you are at each discipline and then to progress from there.  So there will be a training duathlon (5k run, 25 min bike, 2.5k run) on Saturday 13th at 12.00.

2nd February 2010

As previously mentioned we now have a shiny new hack squat machine.  Which is proving to be suprisingly popular!  Not sure what it is?  Then just ask!  The short answer is, it is good for your legs.  Although it might make you curse the day you set eyes on it - the day after you try it...

28th January 2010

As predicted there is now a booking system for spinning and we have added another class on Saturday morning as it was proving to be so popular!!  You can book in the gym or call us to reserve a space.  Also the list of events for 2010  has been added to the 'events' section.  Have a browse and see if you fancy pitting your fitness against the countryside!  More information on each trip can be found in the gym.  And finally, triathlon season is fast approaching and George and Joe are setting up a triathlon club for anyone who fancies a bit of a challenge this year!  Again, details available at the gym...

18th January 2010

It's officially wobbly leg month as the spin lessons take their toll!  Never have so many people had so much trouble making it down the stairs from the spin studio!!  In other news the classes are already getting busy so we will probably start a booking in system, see in the gym for more details.

Well done to those who braved the winter walk too, rumour has it that we nearly lost Ben in a snowdrift!

2nd January 2010

New Year, New stuff!  We now have 4 extra new shiny tradmills, 2 cross trainers (by popular demand) and a spin studio and bikes!  And if Cardio exercise isn't your thing then by the start of February we should have a new low row, cable pull down, hack squat and a pullover machine!

4th October

Just finished the Warwickshire Triathlon, which was cold but extremely well organised, attended and lots of fun.  We shall be dragging all and sundry to do it next year as it needs YOU!  And it is easy to get to, so George managed to even get back and go straight into work, now there's dedication for you!

2nd September

I officially became a dad today!  So news from here on in may be sporadic / misspelt as sleep deprivation takes hold!

23rd August

Just finished Porthcawl triathlon........  We have officially concluded that 750m open water swims in the sea are not a bag of laughs.  Still George and I both finished under 1.30 so that was pleasing and he had to go straight into work and I went home to put my feet up ahahahhahahahaha!

15th July

It turns out that we won the team event too.  Not that I want to keep on about it mind you....

9th July

Well, it is a few days after the 4th July 70 Wild Miles Event and you mat be sorry to find out that we did it without capsizing or getting run over.  The good news is that we did the 47 mile bike ride in 3 hours, the 10 mile canoe in 1 hour 50 minutes and the 13 mile run in 1 hour 47 minutes.  But, even better than that we have raised (so far) 865 for Tenovus Cancer Charity.  Pictures to follow when we get them from the event organiser.

25th June

  ***NEW ARRIVAL!!!***NEW ARRIVAL!!!***NEW ARRIVAL!!!***NEW ARRIVAL!!!***

Hooray!  We now have a splendid set of gymnastic rings in the gym.  Perfect for all sorts of exercises that will make you as strong as 10 men (or women).  Pop in now for a go on them!

18th June

Sorry about the recent lack of news, plenty has been happening but a lack of time and a technological disaster or two have prevented us from updating.  So here is a brief resume...

Well done to those who braved the cyclone on Ben Nevis to take part in the National 3 Peaks at the end of May.  An an extra special mention for those who actually got under the 24 hour mark.  Which when you consider that we had 1. Minibuses restricted to 62mph 2. A minibus that broke down 3. The previously mentioned cyclone 4. 2 accidents on the M6 (not us though thankfully!) 4. Bank holiday traffic, then it was an excellent effort and raised (so far) around 3500!

Speaking of charity, Joe and George are doing a 70 mile multisport event in July in aid of Tenovus.  It comprises - 47 mile bike ride, 10 mile canoe and 13 mile run.  Donations can be made at the gym or you can pledge an amount by emailing the usual: info@aspirefitness.co.uk

14th April

Well done to everyone who braved the Hanham Horror this Easter Sunday and spurned Easter eggs and cooked dinners to run 10k through bogs and up hills.  Thier reward was a smug feeling and a suntan - as it was a lovely morning! Photos will be in the events section soon, courtesy of Jess and Ruth the (un)official photographers!

2nd April

All quiet on the build up to the 3 Peaks training day this Sunday (5th).  I expect everyone is resting in preparation for the rigours of the Beacons...  If you are coming remember - it is 6am at the gym, yes 6AM and we should be back by 4pm.  Pack all the usual kit and make sure you have plenty of food and water!

20th March

First lot of training for the Hanham Horror begins this Saturday at 12.30 at the gym.  It will be quite short - only 3/4 an hour but expect to get muddy!!  We should hopefully have some good news this week for all you adventurous types...

Thursday 26th February

Just a reminder to all, there is a beginners walk being held on Saturday March 14th.  It will be approximately 2 - 3 hours long and is suitable for all fitness levels.  We will be meeting at 8am and car sharing to the start point (it's a closely guarded secret, but it is in the Llantrisant area!).  To take part just contact the gym (02920 235523 or info@aspirefitness.co.uk) to book your place.  The cost is 7.50 paid in advance or 10 on the day.

Friday 20th February

It's all go here today!  We have had the South Wales Echo here today in force - a photographer, reporter and video recordist!  Its all for a column that we are doing for the Echo that, we found out today, will also have online footage.  Matt, who is doing work experience with us was nominated to be our fitness model - by Ben because he was too chicken to do it himself.  I was nominated to talk through the video footage - by Matt because Ben ran off.  Watch this space for detail of when it is online!

Thursday 19th February

In the spirt of the popular TV show 'Gladiators', we invite you to take on the fearsome challenge of MARY!

It is a simple challenge - all you have to do is as many squats as you can in 1 minute.  Mary managed 43 and she is 83!  So to make it fair for all you young 'uns we have added a handicap.  For every year younger you are than Mary you add an extra squat.  So, for example, if you are 50 you are 33 years younger than Mary, so you would need to do 76 to be equal and 77 to defeat her and be victorious!  If you are not sure what a squat is, then here is footage of Mary showing you how to do it...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaeXT_gEuqc

Good luck everyone!  Keep an eye on youtube for footage of people in the gym having a go, and let us know how you got on at info@aspirefitness.co.uk  There may be lovely prizes for the those who can defeat Mary!  There may also be consolation prizes for those who couldn't - shame on you....
