VO2max Testing

VO2max also known as maximal oxygen uptake or maximum aerobic capacity is a measure of the combined ability of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, central nervous, and muscle systems to uptake, transport, and utilize oxygen at maximal exhaustion. It is recognised as the ceiling of aerobic endurance performance and improving VO2max is fundamental to increased health and performance. However, a VO2max test provides much more useful information which can help improve endurance performance and help tailor your training plan.

The Test Provides You With

VO2 max (ml/kg/min).

Accurate Training Zones

Following the test we will be able to calculate your endurance training zones and provide guidance of what they mean. We will provide you with a heart rate and running speed or power output number which delineates each training intensity zone. This is fundamental for aerobic performance training plans.

How is the Test Conducted?

The test is performed on the treadmil or Watt bike depending on your sport. Following a warm up the test starts at a low intensity is gradually increased at 1 minute intervals until you can not sustain the required running speed (treadmill) or power (bike) workload and you are forced to stop the test. Most tests last between 7 and 15 minutes.

Whether you are training for shorter events or longer distances, our testing session will identify your strengths and weaknesses. We can identify the areas which to focus on and recommend the moist appropriate training for you. The test provides a series of fundamental performance markers which helps identify your proile and set training goals. Following the consultation you will know exactly how to train in the months ahead and you will fully understand your own physiology and why we have prescribed the training.

Energy Usage

The test provides you with YOUR specific energy requirements for a given exercise intensity. You will be able to clearly identify total calories, carbohydrate and fat usage at a range of running or cycling intensities. This allows us to calculate the exact amount of carbohydrates that you are using for training and racing at different intensities. This is fundamental in developing a nutritional plan for competition and training.


It's Not Just for Athletes - VO2max Testing for Everyone

VO2max testing is the gold standard measure of cardiovascular health and is used extensively in medical facilities. The test not only provides a measure of your current cardiovascular health it allows you to develop an appropriate aerobic exercise regime which includes training intensities which are achievable. It also allows you to clearly identify the substrate use (calories, carbohydrates and protein) which you utilise at different exercise intensities allowing you to really dial in your fat burning exercise.

Prices

The cost for VO2max testing is £65, and the session will last approximately 1 hour.
